Riverdale and Bughead ship: Where do Betty and Jughead stand now?
So far through season 1, we’d consider Betty and Jughead to be our favorite couple on the show … even if calling them a “couple” is something that not everyone is ready and willing to do just yet.
What we do know is that Betty and Jughead have now been acknowledged as boyfriend / girlfriend, by Veronica and while they’re not off parroting it just yet, the didn’t seem to hate the idea of it either. The future of this couple is so fascinating just because of the fact that you are exploring what is surprising territory. This is not the central relationship that anyone expected to see unfold when Riverdale first started, and that is a big part of why it works.
As a viewer, we do like to see expectations circumvented. If we were to go back and relate this to another popular CW relationship, we’d argue at the moment that these two actually have a good bit in common with Oliver and Felicity on Arrow. You went into the series thinking that the main romantic couple was going to be Oliver and Laurel, and then an alternative entered the mix that was different, exciting.
So where do these two go now that they’re not so much shying away from labels? Betty’s understanding and patience of Jughead’s family in the wake of the revelation about his father is a great start. Finding out each other’s secrets will make them closer, but we’re also not entirely sure that they’re ready to do that. You have to remember that these two are both still teenagers and this relationship is fairly new.They’re not at an age yet where they are ready to be completely committed, unless they’ve acquired some sort of shocking maturity that you don’t often see for people their age.
As for what else you’re going to be seeing on Riverdale … well, the whole Jason Blossom case could end up being quite a distraction. It’s enough to make it harder for the two of them to focus on romance. We’ll see how that relationship progresses in the midst of further secrets coming out.
