Ratings: Bones series finale rises; The Flash falls after musical

Did the Bones series finale ratings deliver a huge punch? Given that it was the final episode of the series on Fox, it makes sense that you would expect the numbers to move upward.

However, they didn’t necessarily surge in the way that you would’ve expected on Tuesday night. As a matter of fact, the Emily Deschanel – David Boreanaz series ended up posting in total a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic for the installment, which is at least the best rating of the entire final season. It allows the show to go out on top.

As we noted last night, however, we’re not sure a Bones season 13 revival will happen solely from the vantage point that the desire to dive into that may just not be there. What’s the incentive for Fox to bring it back if the ratings are around where they are? We’d love to see it, but the rest of the network’s ratings would have to fall in order for it to be a pretty big commodity again. Never say never, right?

As for some other ratings on the night, The Flash sunk to one of its lowest ratings to date in a 0.8, a move that will probably be interpreted as backlash to the musical last week — which seems to be easily the most polarizing episode of the entire series. We thought it was personally fine. It was great to see Barry and Iris get engaged; it didn’t really fit the world, but we’d be more upset about it if the show only had 10-13 episodes in a season. Given that we’ve got 22-23 a season, it’s hard to be all that upset. (For the record, Legends of Tomorrow drew after it a 0.6.)

It was for the most part a pretty boring night overall when it comes to the ratings. The majority of the shows are at this point either renewed or ending because the network decided it so. Trial & Error is a show we had a ton of faith in over at NBC, but it only averaged a 0.9 rating in its two latest episodes … and that’s with The Voice as a lead-in. You can’t blame the timeslot, given that this timeslot is the same one that allowed This Is Us to come and deliver some rather-great ratings wallops.
