Legends of Tomorrow season 2 finale spoilers: Prepare for a rule break
The truth of the matter is that even within a show about time travel, you’ve gotta follow some sort of guidelines. If you don’t, you run the risk that the entire fabric of the universe becomes unsettled and things become a little too chaotic really to the point where it becomes a little bit too hard for everyone to follow. Plus, if a rule is broken, you have to think that everyone will just re-break that rule from here on out and change the entire structure of the show.
Of course, it’s hard to get into specifics without knowing that this said rule even is. For the time being, the only thing that we do have is the following quote from executive producer Marc Guggenheim to Entertainment Weekly, which gives you a good sense of what’s ahead:
“We’re going to do the one thing on the show we said we would never do … Without spoiling too much, clearly they’re going to have to do something very significant and break a major rule in order to fix things.”
Whatever this is, it’ll probably be exciting. Not only that, but there is also a reasonably good chance that this is going to set up a third season of the show. You have to assume that the writers started to plan out the future arc long in advance with this show; it’s almost necessary so that you can make the transition seamless from one batch of episodes to the next.
One thing that is certainly going to bum us out personally if this season does turn out to be the end for the Legion of Doom is that we’re not quite sure what this will mean for some of these characters. Will Malcolm Merlyn return to Arrow, and will the Reverse-Flash have a role anymore? After everything that they’ve gone through in time travel, it would almost be strange to see them back in the normal world once more.
