Scandal season 6: Is Guillermo Diaz leaving?

Thursday night’s new episode of Scandal did the thing where they plunge a knife into your heart, twists it around, and then leave it there. This may be one of the most devastating episodes in the history of the show. It’s certainly one that contained a shocking conclusion.

(Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD.)

In the closing minutes, we saw Huck’s supposed love interest Meg shoot both him and Jennifer after being duped into thinking that she was an ordinary woman who just wanted to be with the evolved / changed version of him. Huck showed mercy on Rowan, saying that he changed; unfortunately, Meg showed no mercy on him.

Or, did she? Is he still alive? Guillermo Diaz’s future is in doubt, but we don’t see much evidence for now that he is leaving the show. There are no postmortem interviews on the web suggesting that he’s gone, and both Shonda Rhimes and the cast are being incredibly cryptic on his future. Remember this classic rule of thumb for TV, especially when it comes to Scandal — there’s always hope for someone, especially if that said someone is still technically breathing.

For the time being, we’d be willing to bet that we see Diaz again. Given that he’s been a regular on the show for the entirety of its run, it’s a little too difficult to imagine a universe where he gets killed off, and then nobody on the show pays proper tribute to him for everything that he’s brought to the table beyond some tweets on social media. (For the record, tonight’s episode should through Diaz into the Emmy conversation, much like he should be almost every year.)

The future of Diaz should be addressed as soon as next week, where we’re going to get the enormous, Abby-centric hour. Hopefully, we’ll understand more as to some of her motivations when it comes to working with Meg. We like to see the good in people, even on a show that is full of people as morally-corrupt as the people on Scandal are. Unfortunately, that may be a bad move right now. Abby’s gotta be one of the most hated characters in America at the moment.
