The Voice video: See Johnny Gates and Sammie Zonana’s Battle Rounds buildup

Johnny Gates and Sammie Zonana

There’s a new episode of The Voice airing on NBC in a matter of hours, and what we’ve got for you below is a first look at the preparation for Johnny Gates and Sammie Zonana prior to them hitting the stage! These two artists are on Team Gwen Stefani, which means that in turn they’re going to have a chance to be mentored by the one-two punch of her and Celine Dion. Given that Dion is one of the most-iconic mentors that the show’s ever brought on, we’d certainly say that the two parties are rather lucky to have this happen and then some.

As for what the two will be performing, think along the lines of “I Drove All Night.” They get some pointers here, and then prepare for what should be a super-fun showdown when they actually hit the stage a little bit later tonight.

We’ll start here by saying that we’re incredibly bummed that these two were paired up against each other, given that you are forcing two of the more-talented singers on the show to square off in some sort of vocal war. One of them is almost certainly going to be stolen, and without hearing the actual performance, it’s tough to say who.

There is a conspiracy-brain part of us that does sometimes wonder whether or not there are some pairings that happen on this show intentionally for the sake of trying to ensure that there’s some sort of steal drama that happens. Yet, like we said, that’s just our theory.

Who won this battle?

Going into the performance, we thought legitimately that it wouldn’t matter, and we’d end up seeing them both advance. Well, color us surprised when we saw that Johnny advanced and Sammie didn’t. Figure the majority of our conspiracy theories now completely nullified. Congratulations to Johnny, though! He did a great job when it comes to his performance. We just thought that the unique quality in Sammie’s voice was going to be enough for her to be able to advance to the next round. Unfortunately, that’s not something we ended up seeing in the end here.
