NCIS: Los Angeles season 8 episode 18 sneak peek: Nell and Eric’s assignment
So why not Kensi and Deeks? As the preview makes it clear, much of it has to do with the subject matter. Since the NCIS: LA team needs there to be someone with a certain degree of tech expertise in order to make it believable, having Nell and Eric go undercover as a couple is what makes the most sense. Alas, this means that Deeks doesn’t get to bring along his marshmallows as planned for an overnight trip! (We’ve never seen anyone so interested in going undercover as him.) He and Kensi still have a role in the operation, but it’s a little bit different than planned.
What makes the idea of this episode fun is that, yet again, you’re going to see the onus once again on doing something slightly different than the norm. This is something that NCIS: Los Angeles season 8 to date has really tried to stress. They’re trying to make things different, and they’re trying to give the characters a wide array of different stuff to do. The more that they really work to emphasize this, the better off we’re going to be as viewers. We’re never going to be upset about the show continuing to take some chances, and trying to make things as interesting as they can.
Of course, it’s with this that the thing that we’re probably the most excited to see as we move forward into season 8 is the chance to see what happens when Eric and Nell actually get out there and involved in the case. We know that they’re both extremely skilled, but this is a very different sort of mission.
