Shades of Blue season 3 renewal official; NBC makes early decision
In a statement, the network’s president Jennifer Salke had the following to say:
“We’re so hugely appreciative of everything Jennifer and Ray do, and know it is due to their dedication, as well as the hard work of our incredible cast and producers, that Shades of Blue has so clearly and compellingly earned a third-season renewal … This show continues to mine powerful stories that always leave us hungry for more.”
What this also means is that we could very well see some sort of news on Chicago Justice in the next week or two, given that it is actually performing better than Shades of Blue to date and it is a part of that larger franchise. We figure that the only reason we haven’t heard too much officially on the subject of that show right now is due to the fact that NBC may be prepping some enormous renewal that includes all of the different shows within the Dick Wolf universe. (For the record, we’d be down for a Shades of Blue crossover with some of those shows or Law & Order: SVU if that was something that the network was interested in.)
If the current schedule holds, the third season of Shades of Blue would premiere in 2018. Given Lopez’s other responsibilities, it’s hard to see that the show ever is expanded too much beyond its current order. However, you never quite know for sure and almost anything is possible.
