Great news for the Chicago Med season 2 ratings — hyping up a significant character death ended up proving to be a benefit for the NBC drama in the ratings. Also good news — we actually are able to report on said ratings in a timely and orderly fashion for the first time in a while.
Thursday night’s new episode entitled “Monday Mourning” ended up generating a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a small increase versus the week prior. It was also enough for the show to ultimately tie Scandal for #1 on the night in the timeslot. It’s great news for the show, though it doesn’t change much of anything when it comes to its renewal odds. We already had Chicago Med as a near-lock to be brought back for another season. The only reason we think that NBC has not confirmed anything just yet is because they’re waiting to renew all four Chicago shows in bulk if they end up being impressed enough with what Chicago Justice is bringing to the table.
Rest assured, we anticipate all four shows being renewed long before the upfront presentation rolls around in May. While you wait around for that, we suggest that you just head over here in order to read our latest Chicago Med episode review right now.
As for some additional ratings news from the night….
How is The Blacklist: Redemption faring?
This show remains a little bit of an enigma to us, given that we didn’t have high expectations for it going in. Our feeling was that it could end up drawing 0.6 or 0.7 ratings for most of its run on the way to a quick cancellation. However, it’s faring slightly better than that. It posted a 0.8 rating last night, which tied it with The Catch on ABC, and it drew slightly more viewers. While these are not great numbers by any means, we could envision a scenario or two in which the show is brought back for another season just to fill up space between new episodes of the flagship show. It’s hard to imagine NBC finding another show to throw in there that will generate better ratings.
Also, remember how terribly some other stuff that NBC has tried to throw into this particular timeslot has done over time. By comparison, this may not actually look all that bad.
