This Is Us season 2: Mandy Moore on Jack, Rebecca’s future

Tonight on This Is Us‘ season 1 finale, we were told at length the story of how Jack and Rebecca first met, and how it was ultimately a powerful series of circumstances that got the two of them to where they were in the closing minutes. They came together via a performance of “Moonshadow,” one that ended up keeping Jack from going down a terrible road of no return. Meanwhile, the story ended with the two splitting apart as she told him following an epic fight that he needed to go and stay and Miguel. What we’re trying to say here is that despite this great, glorious romance, we did see how the story could end for the two of them. We do know Jack’s dead; we just don’t know if he and Rebecca get back living together before that time.

Following the finale, Mandy Moore spoke to Entertainment Weekly and did offer up this small taste on what a This Is Us season 2 story could be for her and Jack as the two work on trying to get themselves and their life back together:

“Things are pretty precarious. I really think this is a turning point in the story of this family, and this is a fundamental rift in the foundation of their relationship, and it really shows that darker, uglier side. I don’t know where it goes from here. I have an idea — I don’t know if things have changed — but I think it’s going to take a lot of work on both of their parts to figure out what the next steps are.”

By the end of the season 2, maybe more of the future will be clear, but even still we have to stress that we’re not for-certain going to be getting confirmation on Jack’s death then, either. The show doesn’t appear to be in much of a hurry to rush anything, and we do understand that.

Aside from anything story-wise, it does feel important to stress once more how great Mandy Moore was to the show and just how much she’s brought to the story all season. Certainly Emmy-worthy to say the least.
