America’s Got Talent: Nick Cannon, Brandon Mychal Smith congratulate Tyra Banks
Yet, it was the America’s Next Top Model host who ended up getting the gig, a move that TMZ claims was somewhat of a surprise given that she was not on the initial list of possibilities. The site also claims that there executives who were split over Smith being the host, which led to him not getting it.
There’s no doubt that when it comes to star power, Banks is the biggest name they’ve had since Jerry Springer. We don’t know a whole lot about what she’s going to bring in terms of live entertainment, but she could surprise us given that she does have plenty of hosting experience at this point. Also, she was great on The Celebrity Apprentice when she made some appearances there earlier this year.
Now, let’s give a round of applause to some other people for their class. If you look below, you can see some congratulations handed down from the likes of both former host Nick Cannon and Smith, who were both kind enough to share some of their reactions. (We do think that Smith responding to her news is further evidence that she was considered for it.)
The new season of the show is going to be airing starting this summer, and audition shows will be filming at some point soon. (The auditions themselves have already happened, and potential finalists have all be notified that they will be taking part in the new season.) The entire judging panel from last season, which includes the likes of Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum, are all going to return for another round. The show experienced somewhat of a ratings boom this past year courtesy of Cowell and the show’s continued habit of finding new and interesting people.
This year, we almost expect even better ratings. The country probably needs something funny that they can unite around, and this show could be it.
