Survivor: Game Changers premiere preview: First look; who could be first out?

Survivor Game Changers premiere -

Wednesday’s Survivor: Game Changers premiere is right around the corner, and it’s a big one. This will mark the 500th episode of the series, and it of course also marks an opportunity to get to see some of the biggest players in the show’s history return.

We’ve already done a very-deep dive into the cast for this season, and our conventional wisdom after looking at this group of contestants is rather simple: The women are really set up to dominate this season. We’ve got a number of players we’d classify as the alpha-male type in Brad, Caleb, Ozzy, and Troyzan, and it’s hard to see any of them making the top five. Then, we’ve got some other guys like Tai and Jeff Varner whose reputation may precede them when it comes to being willing to take big swings. This leaves Malcolm, Zeke, Tony, and JT as the four horseman (ironically, they are in Fiji, where the last four horseman alliance was) who could take the win home for the guys.

While we haven’t written up our winner-prediction piece for the season yet (that will being coming up at CarterMatt pretty soon), it goes without saying that we’re fairly confident that a women is going to come out on top this time around. There are many players we’re very confident in when it comes to a woman making it to the end and winning.

The video below gives you a nice little package of what’s coming up this season, but it doesn’t necessarily tell you much about the tribes or the strategy. What we wanted to do instead here is list off the five people we’re the most concerned about in terms of them being the first boot given their reputations and the makeup of the season.

Debbie Wanner – She’s a great character, but perhaps a bit misunderstood. Maybe there’s a perception that she’s tough to work with because she freelances a little bit, but we think she could be valuable as a number.

Tony Vlachos – He’s the biggest threat on this season out of the guys, and someone who everyone who could be scared to play against (and they should be). The main thing going for him early on is his propensity to find idols — he’s also good in challenges.

Sandra Diaz-Twine – It would be strangely ironic if the first two-time winner went home first here, but she’s the only person with a target the size of Tony’s on her back. She’s also not great in challenges.

Jeff Varner – He’s known as a schemer and he’s not much of a challenge warrior. This could be perceived as one of the safer picks to take out in the early going.

Troyzan Robertson – He’s the sort of guy who loves to be the captain, and we’re not sure how perceptive other people could be to that on this particular season. We could easily see him playing himself out of the game.

We’re slightly worried about Ciera Eastin given her reputation and Brad Culpepper, but we feel like there are bigger threats than Ciera and Brad may play a little more reserved this time — at least enough to avoid being an early target.
