Is an Emerald City season 2 renewal possible?
Could an Emerald City season 2 happen at NBC? Going into tonight, that’s the big mystery to go along with how the finale ends. This is a show that has done a good job of taking an established property like The Wizard of Oz and making it new, and it’s a show that does have a faithful following at this point.
Here’s the issue: Where we stand right now in terms of the ratings. As of right now, the show is averaging just over 3 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. If this were any other night other than Friday, you could argue that the show was dead in the water. However, we’re speaking here about a show that is on the weakest night of the work week, and also one that is genre and catered to a specific crowd. You do have to consider these factors, coupled with some of its time-shifted ratings all across the board.
It’s with all of this in mind that we consider a second season possible, but it’s going to take a lot of work from the fans to make it happen.
Watch the finale live!
Yes, we know that it’s a Friday, and it’s a really nice day depending on where you are. Take the hour and make sure that you check out the show with the commercials attached. If you’re a family with a Nielsen box, be sure to definitely watch it live. If you know somebody with a Nielsen box, go over and borrow your TV. Measuring ratings with these boxes is archaic and not all that relevant in 2017, but that’s the way things are sometimes, you just gotta go with it.
Also, be sure to tweet about the show often tonight, whether it be using the #EmeraldCity hashtag or by writing to the official Twitter page. Do the same thing on Facebook, since you want to let NBC know that you are here and can be accounted for. Fan enthusiasm is a great way to get the word out there about the show in between seasons, provided that it’s renewed.
The one thing that you don’t want to do is start campaigning after there are no new episodes to watch and fight for. There’s less of a reason for NBC to buy into what you’re selling.

I love the dark retelling. Much more in line with the books than the Judy Garland books.
It felt like someone at NBC had it in for the show. Couldn’t tell whether they were selling or sinking their own show…………..
I hope they renew it AND take a few pointers from cable world on how to market something more interesting than Law and Order, Chicago Whatever or the rest of their normative dreck……. yuck…..

I know of one person who didn’t like the show because it made her think too much. She then told me she wanted to know what happens but didn’t want me to tell her, just in case she wanted to watch it herself. I think that conflict is how we all feel. You shouldn’t like the show – it’s messy and confusing with a lot of lopsided character development, but you just can’t not watch it. It’s the first Friday night show I watch to catch up on, and I have 3 that I watch. Dorothy and Lucas are a beautiful couple you want to see get back together, the Wizard is a POS you want to see disgraced, and West is the addict with so much misdirected passion you want to see which random direction she explodes into next. The only thing it needs is more Tinman and Lion… which is what we all hope to get in season 2!

Agreed on all points (and Nielson ratings should be abolished)! Emerald City is amazing and deserves many more seasons!!

Nielson Ratings should be abolished considering the fact that the new audience is mostly online viewers who learn about shows from social media.
