Beyond Outlander season 3: When could season 4 start filming?
When could season 4 start filming for the show? We figured this would be a fun exercise as we start to look at the current timeline, and then also a lengthy production period that is lasting all the way into the start of June.
Let’s look first at the facts that we know right now. The end of season 3 will be a few months before it starts airing. As mentioned many times over, this filming will be wrapping up all the way in South Africa. We’ve already heard on a few different occasions that for the writers and producers of the show, there’s not too much of a break as they will get to writing some scripts for the new season sooner rather than later. This would suggest in theory that filming would be moving rather quickly.
Is it? Well, we do think that there will be a nice break jammed in there somewhere for the actors and some of the crew members, especially since they will need to make themselves available to do some press for the third season throughout the month of September. This requires so much work that it’s hard to film directly opposite it. Season 3 production started up in September of 2016, but when you consider everything that we detailed and the later premiere date, we imagine that season 4 will start filming a little bit later, as well — but not substantially so. Our thinking is either late September or early October following the premiere press, which may need to be done especially if the show wants to return with season 4 in the fall of 2018. It’s fun to speculate over that sort of stuff, but the reality is that we’re far ahead of the game here. We don’t even know for sure where filming will be taking place. We know that personally, we’d love to see the show continue to use Scotland as much as possible — it helps the economy there, and it could in theory also be used to double for other places.
When will there be official word?
Probably not for a while. Filming this season is still far from over, and everyone’s going to want that break. We just like to start building a timeline early so that we can prepare, and begin charting further what several of the networks are going to do.
