Jimmy Kimmel Live details Oscars envelope drama and more (video)

Oscars -

Just in case you were wanting one last bit of info regarding the Oscars envelope drama from last night’s telecast, we have that for you below courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel.

At the start of tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! episode, Kimmel gave a lengthy monologue in which he explained everything that happened during the show, whether it be Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway’s presentation fiasco to how the producers of La La Land handled everything after they realized that someone had made a monumental mistake. Kimmel had an interesting bit of perspective given that it was technically his job to ensure that things didn’t go off the rails during the show, even though they very clearly did.

Jimmy admitted that at points, he was confused — as a matter of fact, he even needed Denzel Washington at one point to yell “Barry” so that Moonlight director Barry Jenkins would be able to go up to the microphone and offer a speech. He did some detective work of his own after the show, which included him going and speaking with Warren backstage about everything that happened. You also got some footage thrown in here of Emma Stone from the press room, where she insisted that she had the envelope with her name on it the entire time for Best Actress.

Ultimately, we learned earlier today the full scope behind everything that happened, as it was revealed that the accounting firm behind the show had accidentally handed down the wrong envelope. There were two envelopes per category (at least for the major ones), and someone gave Beatty the wrong one instead of the one for Best Picture. The unfortunate thing is that there are some people out there who are probably not aware of this, and will continue to blame either Warren or Faye for this. (For the record, apparently Faye got the heck out of dodge as quickly as she could after the fiasco took place.)
