Is Saturday Night Live new tonight? A Emma Stone – Jennifer Aniston rewatch

Given that last week was a repeat, it was fair to ask the question ‘is Saturday Night Live new tonight?’ to anyone and everyone who would listen.

Unfortunately, tonight we come bearing bad news: It’s not. You will have for the second straight week a repeat, and this time it is the one featuring Emma Stone as a host and Shawn Mendes as the musical guest from this past fall.

What’s so interesting about this show is that on paper, there isn’t all that much that we consider to be overtly memorable. It was constantly funny, but very rarely roll-on-the-floor hilarious. It’s with that in mind that there was a little bit of a tougher time on our end trying to find the right sketch to highlight for this article.

Nonetheless, we do believe that we’ve come up with a worthy candidate! If you look below, you can see the Film Screening sketch from the episode. It actually aired rather late in the show for some reason, but it was ridiculous and all sorts of fun as Stone and Jennifer Ansiton were joined by Kate McKinnon’s classic movie-star Debette Goldry as she recounted some of her stories. The joke here is easy to relay — that women were terribly mistreated in the olden days of yore — beyond the predictability and the fact that we’ve seen this character before, there were still laughs aplenty to be found in her. It actually holds up better when watching it alone as opposed to in the context of the show. Aniston’s cameo was spoiled earlier on when she turned up during the Friends spoof with Vanessa Bayer being Rachel during Weekend Update.

SNL will be new next week, and it is a run of two straight shows. The first one is going to be featuring an appearance from Octavia Spencer as the host. Following that, there’s the newly-reported show hosted by none other that incoming Five-Timers Club member Scarlett Johansson. Given that it will have been a while since the last show, here’s to hoping to a return for Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump.
