‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 19 renewal watch: How did ‘No Surrender’ fare?

We know that the enthusiasm surrounding a potential ‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 19 renewal is high. Therefore, why not try to help in any way that we possibly can? This is what this story, and many others to follow, are going to be all about until the news is passed along.

Last night, the latest episode of the series entitled “No Surrender” aired on NBC, and the numbers for it signaled at least a relative amount of success. As a whole, the installment drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and to go along with it also a grand total of 5.66 million viewers. In the demo, it was tied with “Criminal Minds” for #2 on the night, trailing only “Modern Family.” (That is expected when you look at past other numbers.)

Does this rating help or hurt the cause? It does mark a slight drop from the show’s most-recent rating, but it doesn’t drag down the average much. To date, “SVU” season 18 is down only 8% from season 17, and is averaging close to a 1.5 rating. (We focus on the demo more because it, in turn, is what networks also focus on when considering renewals.)

Where does this put the odds for season 19?

At the moment, there’s still plenty of reason to be hopeful. The show remains one of NBC’s most-popular scripted shows, behind only the likes of “This Is Us” and the show airing after it in “Chicago Fire.” It also continues to boast a huge social-media following. The cast appears interested in continuing the series, so with all of these variables combined, shouldn’t you feel great about where things are going?

NBC will make their decision on the future of “SVU” and other shows by the time we get to May. In this particular instance, though, we expect a renewal to come before we get down to the wire. The last thing the network seems to want to do is start to make people feel nervous in any way.
