‘This Is Us’ episode 16 reaction: Ron Cephas Jones on William’s future

Are we going to see William on “This Is Us” again after the events of tonight’s episode? Given what we did see tonight, it’s understandable to have a lot of questions.

During tonight’s new episode of the show, we saw eventually William pass away after a trip to Memphis where he spent some time bonding with his son William. The two had the memories built that they’d never had a chance to before, but right when it seemed like he was doing okay, we ended up losing him from the show.

Ron Cephas Jones gave an Emmy-worthy performance in this episode, and it’s of course understandable that you want to see more of him. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he certainly made it clear that he would love to find a way to do more of the show moving into season 2 — as a matter of fact, it feels like a certainty:

“To be honest with you, we haven’t even gotten that far [as to talking about specifics]. I haven’t had any conversations with Dan at this point about what would transpire next season. But at this point, I’m just totally satisfied at the moment with knowing that the character’s going to be back for season 2, so I still don’t know what capacity, how many episodes, things like that, so we just have to wait a little longer before I can even get close to answering [anything further].”

The biggest thing that we hope for as we do get further into this story is another opportunity to see different parts of William’s history, and understand even further some of his decisions. This is a story that will continue to evolve, and hopefully in the process of that, we will get a chance to uncover a learn a few more important things.
