‘Quantico’ season 2: Show boss preparing for both season finale, series finale possibilities

Quantico -

The second season of “Quantico” has officially entered hiatus territory. Monday night was the last episode of the show for a good month, and when it does end up returning on March 20, it’s going to feel very different as a series. For the first time, there will be a singular timeline, and there’s not going to be the same focus or attention to some sort of training program. The team will be out in the field together, potentially working to solve shared problems facing the country. We do think that in some ways it could feel like a different show; it’ll be more streamlined, and potentially more hopeful as the show pivots more from what the mood of the country is at the moment.

So one of the bigger questions that does now remain is what the status of the show could be moving into the next season. The ratings have fallen sharply since the first season, and not even airing it past “The Bachelor” helped much — sure, they are two very different shows, but there was a hope among some that they would at the very least leave the TV on once the dating show was over.

For the time being, the show’s own executive producer seems to be taking the stance of cautious optimism about the future. In the event that the season finale does end up becoming the series finale, there will in turn be a sense of resolution. Here is what Josh Safran had to say according to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Every season finale I approach the same way. I love what Joss Whedon did with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There weren’t necessarily cliffhangers; the seasons resolved themselves and there was maybe a tidbit or two to launch you to the next year. I always found that very refreshing because it allowed me to think about the characters in the world over the hiatus, instead of worrying about the fate of somebody when they’d end up being alive anyway. We are definitely wrapping up the season but we’re also spinning off the next season. If that so happens that is the last episode of the show, I think it’s going to end in a satisfactory place. It’s not necessarily going to end in a happy ending, but it’s going to end in an ending that feels correct for the characters.”

Ultimately, be assured that one way or another, you’re going to have a little bit more closure. We just have to say and see how it comes about.
