TV Bachelors: Should ‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 give Otis a new love interest?

Otis -Mrs. Carter: Isn’t it time to celebrate Otis a little more?

We’ll be the first to admit that the firefighter, otherwise known as Brian Zvonecek, is one of our favorite “Chicago Fire” characters. He’s got a passion and a joy about him that you don’t see in many other places in the franchise — he takes the job seriously, but he also know how to have fun. He also gets to be the center of some pretty funny stories over at Molly’s on a fairly regular basis.

One of the things that he really hasn’t had, however, since Katie all the way on season 2 is romance. Many other characters across the show have had many opportunities in that department, whether it be Severide, Mouch, Brett, and of course Casey and Dawson. What’s it gonna take to get Otis a little more love in his life? We’re going to go through that in this edition of our TV Bachelors series, and we may have a suggestion that may be both surprising to some and polarizing to others.

Who’s the right person for Otis? – You do want to get someone for him who has a great sense of humor, and will be willing to play along with some of his schemes — to a certain extent. You don’t want to get it where it is with Sonequa Martin-Green’s character on “New Girl” where you don’t know what’s real or what’s a joke. She has to challenge him on some level, and allow him to take on even further challenges. This is a character that we’ve come to know for quite some time as someone lighthearted, so we’d be fine to see things go in a different direction so that we could see a little bit of a different side to him.

Specifically, let’s throw one interesting name out there who is already on the cast — how about Stella? For the most part her story’s been geared towards Severide, but we’ve enjoyed most of the scenes that she and Otis have had together since she first came aboard. They compete with each other (see the mud run story) in a really fun way, and they absolutely spend a good bit of time together in between the Firehouse and Molly’s. Given that many great relationships do start out as friendships, it’s not all that hard to see how something like this could originate.

Beyond Stella, another suggestion would be to cast someone from maybe a different line of work than we often see, such as a locale street artist or a theater actress. Bring in some different dimensions to the Chicago world, and also allow Otis to have someone who could further his own creative pursuits.
