‘The Walking Dead’ season 7, episode 11 preview: Will Josh McDermitt’s Eugene survive Negan?

Eugene -

Tonight, “The Walking Dead” looks to be bringing you a story that is all about the new world that Rick Grimes is encountering with Michonne, and some of the interesting dynamics that could be explored there. There is certainly some potential for this to be an interesting one for the show to explore at this point, even beyond what you see of it tonight.

Beyond this episode, though, we’re going to get a chance to see a story entitled “Hostiles and Calamities” that is all about trying to navigate another difficult world: The Sanctuary. Is this the Eugene episode that so many were anticipating? We cannot confirm that 100% at the time of this writing (mostly because this portion of the article was written before the promo’s release), but all signs point to this.

Synopsis – “An Alexandrian discovers they must navigate the mysterious, confusing and terrifying world within the Saviors’ compound.”

What other Alexandrian is over there with the Saviors right now? Eugene’s abilities as a gunsmith may be of use to Negan and company, and what is mostly interesting about that is that we’re looking at a character who famously was of no use to anyone at the time that he first made his appearance on the show beyond a lie he told about Washington DC.

The question that we really want to ponder over is just how we’re going to continue to see Eugene try and adapt to these circumstances, given that he’s not someone who is known for being a bruiser or for having guts of steel. Can he really handle the “Easy Street” and the dog food in the way that Daryl did, or will he try to play along with their machinations a little bit more? This should be fun to find out, and if this is a Eugene episode, it could give Josh McDermitt some of the best material he’s had on the show to date.

Promo – Here’s your confirmation that Eugene will be at the center of this episode. Also, Negan’s back! You didn’t get to see much of him tonight.
