‘Supergirl’ season 2: Mr. Mxyzptlk actor on his character’s Kara obsession

Wedding -On Monday night’s new episode of “Supergirl” season 2, one of the more interesting (and bizarre) things to explore is going to be the show’s presentation of Mr. Mxyzptlk. He’s one of the most unusual characters who we’ve seen on the show, and he’s ABSOLUTELY unusual in the Superman comics. He’s a guy who is obsessed with stirring up trouble, and on the TV show, he’ll remain an imp from another dimension. The main difference is that here, he’ll be obsessed with Kara Zor-El to the point that he’ll have all sorts of out-there thoughts running through his brain — including marriage, however strange that may sound (and it should certainly sound strange).

In discussing this particular story further, especially in terms of what his character sees in Kara, Peter Gadiot had the following to say to TVLine:

“Mixy’s someone who’s lived for a long time, and he’s probably experienced a lot of loneliness. Then Kara comes into his consciousness, and he instantly sees not only her physical beauty, but her unique abilities.”

As a result of this obsession, we’re going to see many moments within this episode that are certainly unique — to use the word lightly. This is a character really like no other, and someone who’s going to bring a lot of energy and personality into everything that he does. He’s mischievous, he’s surprising, and he’s going to cause some problems for Kara. We absolutely imagine that he’ll be entertaining to boot. The biggest thing that we’re left to figure out is JUST how off-the-wall crazy he’ll become in the event that he doesn’t get what he wants — which we don’t exactly feel like he will.

The only thing that we really hope is that the writers leave it open enough that he could come back down the road and stir up some other problems. Remember for a minute here that this is a show always in need of interesting, quirky villains — many of the ones that it has are serious, and we liken this character more to the Trickster than anyone else.
