‘The Bachelor’ spoilers: How Nick Viall, Rachel Lindsay will tackle race discussions on hometown date

Rachel -Monday night’s new episode of “The Bachelor” is all about hometown dates, and while that may not be the most exciting part of the competition sometimes, it’s got some buzz-worthy scenes this time around! For one, we’ve already discussed the interesting potential that can come out of Nick Viall visiting Quebec — and then there’s also the date that he’s going to have with Rachel Lindsay in Dallas.

There is going to be such an interesting dynamic at play while watching the show, knowing that Rachel doesn’t end up with Nick in the end. You could therefore watch it wondering if there is anything at play here that makes you think that the two parties don’t end up together. Meanwhile, you’ve also got the subject of race coming up in a way that you don’t often see on the show, largely because of the fact that there’s never been an African-American contestant who made it this far into a season. This is not something the show’s ever been able to explore with family before.

ABC does give you a small sense of how this discussion could play out, and the good news is that Nick looks as though he’s going to win them over in time:

“Rachel meets Nick in Dallas and takes him to church. He may be one of few white people in attendance, but he feels right at home. How will he feel when he meets Rachel’s family? After the two discuss the trials and tribulations they may face as an interracial couple, they discover that, happily, her family sees in him what she sees in him. With this last hurdle cleared, will Rachel admit to herself that she is falling in love with Nick and will she tell him?”

We don’t see race being much of an issue with the two of them at all — the bigger one could be the age-old “does she tell him how she feels?” issue, which is one that tends to come up on this show almost every year. Someone holds back, and then gets eliminated and regrets it. It’s certainly possible that this said someone could be Rachel this time around — it’s either that or she’ll just be told “I have stronger relationships” whenever Nick does decide to send her home.
