‘Bones’ season 12 video: Eddie McClintock talks return as Sully
On Tuesday night, “Bones” is going to air an episode that will be memorable for a number of different reasons, but one of the biggest ones will be as simple as getting to see a friendly face once again! Eddie McClintock is going to be coming back into the picture as Sully, one of the first men to sweep Brennan off of her feet.
The video below is your primer to get you set — you get to see the return of Eddie McClintock, and he and others take you through the whole history of the relationship the guy had with Emily Deschanel’s character early in its run. In retrospect, it’s a fascinating, interesting bond that the two shared — there wasn’t anything wrong with Sully in terms of who he was as a person. He was nice, he was accomplished, and he had about a million different qualifications to his name. He just wasn’t the right person for Brennan in the end. Sometimes, things end as simply as that.
We know that when the casting was first announced, the internet response to it was more or less the equivalent of THIS IS EXCITING BUT HE BETTER NOT TAKE BRENNAN AWAY FROM BOOTH. Here’s our response to this: Calm down. Also, know that the Booth – Brennan relationship is so strong that someone from the second season isn’t going to come in during one episode and completely destroy their relationship. McClintock even reassures you of that further below, noting that his presence on the show is not meant to be any sort of thorn in the side of the longstanding couple. He’s just checking up on his old friend, who recently lost her father, and is making sure that she is okay. This is a kind, loving appearance rather than one directed with any sort of malice or dark intent.
Ultimately, just expect this appearance to be a nostalgic one that could help Booth and Brennan feel as though they’re getting closer together during a tough time. It’s nice that the writers found a way to revisit this guy before we made it to the end of the road for the series.
