‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: Envisioning that Daryl, Carol reunion
Mrs. Carter: You know that it’s gotta be coming up at some point soon…
Here’s where things stand on “The Walking Dead” at the moment: Most of the heroes are still alive, Daryl’s on the run from Negan, and Carol’s currently doing her impression of Clint Eastwood from “Gran Torino.” Get off her lawn! She doesn’t want to deal with anyone, and instead, she mostly just wants to do her own thing.
Can that change? Is there anyone who can get through to her? Introduce Daryl, otherwise known as the Carol whisperer. He’s the chosen one — if this was Zelda, he’s have the Master Sword. If this was Harry Potter, he’d have a scar on his forehead. If this was “The Walking Dead” … wait, this IS “The Walking Dead.” (We are the Walking Dead — incidental Rick Grimes quote.) Anyhow, Daryl’s got a crossbow. That’s his mark of destiny, in addition to having the honeyed words that could ease Carol’s soul.
For the sake of this article, we thought we’d present three possible ways in which the Daryl / Carol reunion could go down whenever it happens.
Door #1 – The is the bad door a.k.a. the Darkest Timeline. Daryl shows up, Carol tells him to skedaddle, and then starts to throw things at him. (Let’s hope she doesn’t throw cookies — terrible waste of cookies.) If Daryl can’t get through to her, nobody will and Carol will remain the hermit of the Kingdom for the remainder of the season. Ironically, doing so may prolong her odds of survival far more than anyone else.
Door #2 – Daryl works his magic and manages to change the world with only a few simple words. (It’s not often that we hear him say more than just a few, after all.) She joins the fight, and then gives us a moment that we all seriously want to interpret as being more romantic than it actually is.
At this point in the run, there isn’t a whole lot of evidence that Daryl is ever going to become a fully romantic character on the show — forehead kisses may be all we got!
Door #3 – Since we’re creating our own scenarios here, let’s go crazy! Carol is so happy to see him that they run into each others’ arms, kiss, and Celine Dion music plays in the background. The horde of walkers arrives, Daryl blinks, and they’re all so terrified that they run away full-speed. Carol then teleports to the Sanctuary and kills Negan, saving everyone else a whole lot of trouble and Rick can be concerned with being a gardener again.
