‘Once Upon a Time’ season 7: Possible casting news, and is a ‘reboot’ really a good idea?

Once Upon A TimeAt the moment, the future of “Once Upon a Time” is absolutely not set in stone. ABC has not renewed the Jennifer Morrison – Robert Carlyle series yet for a seventh season, and there is no confirmation that this is even going to be coming. Just look at the ratings for the time being — they are down pretty significantly from where they were during season 5. They may be better than any of ABC’s other Sunday shows, but this is no longer a smash hit.

Therefore, it makes sense that the show would start to ponder over some of its future, but is this the future that the fans want? That remains to be seen…

According to a new report coming in right now via TVLine, there are going to be two guest-stars cast for the end of the season, and they could end up becoming regulars in the event the show is renewed. One of them is a “leading man” in his late twenties / early thirties, someone who has the capacity to be strong, but also is a little bit of a recluse. To go along with him, the show is also looking to bring on a young actress to play a ten-year old girl, someone who’s been through a lot for her age but has not let go of her hope and optimism.

This news comes while the contracts for many of the show’s cast are up, and you do have to wonder whether or not many of them will return. We know that for us, rebooting the entire series with the ratings so low doesn’t seem like all that much of a solution, unless you’re giving it a new title and are trying to go out and promote it to a new audience. All you could end up doing is angering everyone who is already watching the show for the characters that you have.

In the end, this is all a complicated issue — our hope is that everyone will comeback for one more go, and that we get a final season that ties up the present and gives hope for the characters moving into the future. Even if it’s just a 13-episode final season, we’d like show bosses Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to be able to craft a full season with the knowledge that is will be the last one for the show.

What do you think about the idea of some new characters coming into “Once Upon a Time,” and the idea that we could be seeing the final season coming up?
