‘MasterChef Junior’ season 5, episode 2 exclusive preview: The great lobster battle

MasterChef -Thursday night on Fox, you’re going to get a chance to see the second episode of “MasterChef Junior” season 5, where you’ll meet some more of the young home cooks intent on getting the white apron and getting to the main portion of the competition.

In order to get there, though, the four contestants from Massachusetts in the exclusive sneak peek below have a rather daunting challenge: Making a lobster dish for Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi. Let’s make one thing rather clear first and foremost: We hate cooking lobster. It requires a lot of prep in order to properly break down the shell, and there’s a certain degree of guilt that comes with doing it. Then again, we’re not a chef; if you want to have a career in food, this is the sort of stuff that you could be confronted with … even at an early age. This is going to be a tough test for the kids to take on!

Much like we saw on last week’s new episode, the two who manage to impress the judges enough will go on to the next round, and from there the entire field will change. Instead of competing against just a small group, they’ll be squaring off against every other kid still in the competition. This competition can be stressful at times, but one of the reasons why this version works is simply because you continue to see the kids who take part maintain a level of enthusiasm. You can tell that they love food, are happy to be there, and don’t feel some of the pressure that you often see with some of the adults on the flagship portion of the competition.

Could you tackle a lobster challenge like this at such a young age? Let us know some of your thoughts on this video below!

Meanwhile, we suggest that you head over here if you want to see some other news, including our review of the premiere episode. We’ll be back tomorrow night with another review, and coming up later this season the plan is to bring you some exit interviews, as well. (Photo: Fox.)
