‘Supernatural’ season 12, episode 12 preview: Dean as Castiel’s wingman

Dean CastielWhile we know that “Supernatural” does monster stories and creepy cases incredibly well, there is still one thing that we’d label as our biggest guilty pleasure on this show more than almost anything: Castiel struggling to understand human behavior. He knows the mechanics for how it should work, but he doesn’t always know how to put two and two together.

This brings us to the sneak peek below for Thursday night’s “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” one that features Misha Collins’ character at a diner, getting some unsolicited advice from Dean about how the waitress is totally into him. Other than pounding all that food last week, we’re not sure we’ve ever seen Dean as excited as anything as the prospect of giving Cas a “teachable moment,” and maybe setting him up on a date. He tries to tell him about all the highs and lows of dating waitresses, which really say as much about the frequency of Dean’s hookup habits as much as anything. He’s basically a badass version of Barney Stinson from “How I Met Your Mother.” Legend…wait for it…dary.

Anyhow, eventually it’s Mary Winchester who puts her best foot forward and tries to get the gang on track, and it’s a good thing that she’s there given that we could’ve otherwise seen this aside last for an incredibly long period of time. Not that we would’ve personally minded much, though, given that we do find this whole ordeal to be very much entertaining (if you didn’t get that sense already).

It makes sense that Mary would be the person to keep the boys on track this week, given that she is the one who comes to the three with a mission Thursday night. On paper, this sounds like an exciting opportunity for everyone to engage in some bonding time; it’s too bad that Mary in the process regrets to mention in the early moments that the British Men of Letters are involved here.
