How ‘Stranger Things 2’ took a page from ‘Game of Thrones’

Stranger -

The second season of “Stranger Things” will be premiering on Netflix a little bit later this year, and it absolutely makes a great deal of sense that Netflix would want to keep this upcoming story under wraps. They know that they’ve got an incredibly popular show here, and as the wait continues from now until Halloween (when the new season will presumably premiere), the interest in spoilers is only going to escalate.

As a result of that, one of the things that you should expect to see are some heightened protocols, designed almost entire to ensure both on set and off that everything stays under wraps. One of the things that is most interesting is that the show even talked with people from another established (and super-secretive) hit to ensure that they used the best techniques possible to keep story-points hidden. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Shawn Levy had the following to say:

“We literally consulted with the producers on Game of Thrones to learn security protocols … We had no security protocols last season and we have extensive security protocols this season. I can’t speak about what they are because then people could crack them. We protect every story point, every page of every script.”

If this was ten or maybe fifteen years ago, there probably wouldn’t be a need to go to these sort of extremes. However, information is now almost instantly available to people, and with many shows like “Game of Thrones” you have people literally skulking around various sets hoping to get almost any sort of information possible. As a result of that, people have to think smart (and think VERY creatively) when it comes to how to combat spoilers.

“Stranger Things” is a show where, honestly, we don’t want to know much until it premieres. It’s a story about whimsy and imagination; hopefully, even some spoiler-hounds out there realize that some things are better off when they are left under lock and key.

Are you surprised at all that things show needs to be THIS secretive? Share in the comments, and head over here in the event you’re interested in checking out some further news right now when it comes to “Stranger Things.” (Photo: Netflix.)
