‘Scorpion’ season 3, episode 16 preview: Let’s make chess exciting!

Chess -Scorpion” is a show that does many remarkable things, but there may not be any one thing that is as remarkable as their ability to make an episode about something like chess interesting to the masses. Let’s be clear — we do like playing chess, but there’s a very clear difference between enjoying chess as a player, and then trying to have the ability to watch it and enjoy it.

Then again, it’s very different when you’re watching people like Walter and Sylvester play chess and they relentlessly talk trash to one another.

The main premise of Monday night’s new episode entitled “Keep It in Check, Mate,” as described by the promo below, is rather clear: Our two heroes have to figure out a way in which to extract the #1 chess player in the world in the midst of a busy tournament, without being caught by the bad guys. This is going to prove to be very challenging, especially when both guys do well enough in the tournament that they eventually have to square off against each other. Hilarity seems to ensue.

Also, we find it hilarious that the show’s going to have a car chase that involves horse statues (i.e. giant chess knights) flying all of the place. If the show wanted to go big with bringing their subject matter to life, we have a feeling that’s going to happen here. While this past episode felt very much like a “Jaws” or one of those great ocean-survival movies, we’re about to get something that will feel a little more like a “Bourne Identity” or one of those classic foreign heist movies … with the big difference being that you’re seeing chess thrown in there. Any chance that we can get where Walter O’Brien is more like a chess-playing James Bond is a chance we’re going to embrace.

What do you want to see on the next new episode of “Scorpion,” and do you think that this could actually be one of the better episodes of the season? Share now in the comments, and be sure to head over here to score some further news right now when it comes to the series! (Photo: CBS.)
