‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Pearl Mackie responds to Peter Capaldi’s impending exit
As of now, most fans of “Doctor Who” have heard the most-unfortunate news regarding Peter Capaldi: He will be checking out of “Doctor Who” at the end of season 10 and the upcoming Christmas Special. He is leaving the series at the same time as showrunner Steven Moffat, which means that new showrunner Chris Chibnall will have an opportunity to find a new Doctor for when he comes aboard the series in 2018.
We know that many viewers out there are upset about the decision, and even his new co-star is lamenting having to say goodbye. In speaking on the subject to InStyle, here is what Pearl Mackie had to say:
“I’m very new to camera acting and all the technical stuff and he will always check if I’m okay … We really get into the scenes and he’s very open to my opinions. I’m so sad [that he’s leaving] but I’m just happy I got to work with him. He’s such a generous actor.”
We feel as though the possibility of a Capaldi exit is something that Mackie was probably aware of at the time in which she first signed up for the show, largely because of the length of time in which past Doctors have chosen to take on the role. It’s a physically demanding part, one that requires a great deal of time and plenty of stamina. (It also has this nasty knack for causing knee injuries.) Capaldi had a chance to celebrate his inner child for many years on the show, but we’re sure that he is looking forward now to a chance to take on a few other things for a time. The great news is that he’s the sort of actor we could easily see coming back for some future cameos in the event he’s called upon — much like we think both Matt Smith and David Tennant would, as well.
