‘The Bachelorette’: Chris Harrison talks on Rachel Lindsay’s potential

Rachel -The new season of “The Bachelorette” is going to be premiering on ABC later this spring, and judging from some of the internet buzz, this could be a really close two-person race this year between Raven Gates and Rachel Lindsay — provided that neither one of them ends up with Nick Viall at the end of this season. Both of them have big personalities and big hearts, and they’d each make for compelling leads. That’s the good thing about this season — there are fewer casting duds in the group, and therefore more people who are worthy of taking on the gig.

There is a certain significance surrounding Rachel if she gets the part, mostly because she’d be the first African-American lead in the show’s history. There’s certainly plenty of conversation around her, and show host Chris Harrison made it clear to Us Weekly that he’s certainly all for it if the hire happens:

“She would be incredible … She’s incredibly smart, she’s sweet and caring yet strong and independent, obviously wicked smart and a lawyer and very accomplished, has a lot of attributes. That’s massively attractive to Nick, and it would be to any guy!”

The biggest thing that could be appealing to Rachel as a lead for this show is that she comes with a great story that is easy to present: This would be the first season of “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette” since Chris Soules where someone’s job actually played a pretty significant role in the narrative of them being cast on the show. Before that, it was Andi Dorfman. Think back to Kaitlyn Bristowe, Ben Higgins, JoJo Fletcher, or even this season with Nick and think about how many times the job was mentioned. Here’s a hint: It’s a non-factor. Her being a working professional who didn’t have time for love in the pursuit of her career is interesting, and you then add to this her heart, her sense of humor, and how much people out there want her to find love. She’s got a pretty good chance of getting the role, provided that she continues the trajectory that she’s on right now.
