‘Power’ season 4 spoilers: Larenz Tate set for recurring role

Power -

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a chance to drop some casting news for “Power” season 4, so with that, we’re here to get back into it!

As first reported by Deadline, Larenz Tate of “House of Lies,” “Rescue Me,” and “Game of Silence” fame is going to be stepping into a recurring gig on the super-fantastic Starz series. He’ll be playing a City Councilman out of Jamaica Queens known as Rashad Tate, but that’s the only thing that is known about him at the moment for certain.

As for how someone like this character could be used on the show, we do think that the possibilities there are pretty endless. Just think about it for a moment: “Power” is a show that often views New York City as a character in its own right, and Tate is a beacon for a particular part of that. He’s going to be out (at least hopefully) to protect some of that, so he could end up being defense and quick to act in the event that he starts to feel as though something is happening that puts the people of his area into danger — such as a drug trade led by Tommy or someone else.

Another possibility? That he’s dirty himself, and he’s using the drug trade to fill his pockets while looking the other way anytime someone brings a concern to him. The thing about this show is that it does a tremendous job of not making many characters black and white. They exist in multiple layers of gray, so a guy like Councilman Tate could do a superb job of presenting a squeaky-clean image, while at the same time being somewhat shady behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, there is no confirmed return date for “Power” season 4 at present, and it could be some time before one is known for certain. You just have to remember here for a minute that Starz is adding “American Gods” to the schedule, so it’s possible both “Power” and “Outlander” get pushed back. You can read more about the premiere-date question over here.

Meanwhile, be sure to share your thoughts on this casting in the comments! (Photo: Starz.)
