Could ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum Patrick Dempsey land a new series for the fall season?
Are we getting closer to seeing a return to television for Patrick Dempsey? You always want to keep an eye open for this sort of thing (since he’s a TV fan favorite), and based on some of the indicators that we’re getting right now, it does appear that something could be on the horizon for him.
According to a report from Deadline, the former “Grey’s Anatomy” star is one of many actors currently in contention for something more this pilot season — at least in terms of him being sought-after by many producers looking to land a big fish for one of their projects. The appeal of getting Dempsey on board is certainly huge given that his presence could be what producers need to sell a show from a marketing perspective, especially since he’s been so missing in action on the TV front since departing the ABC drama.
If we were to speculate on what we’d like to see him in, it’d probably start with some sort of political or spy thriller where he could play a veteran agent looking to steer someone else on the right path, while battling some of his own demons at the same time. We could also see him doing something a little bit more comedic as well. The first thing we ever saw Dempsey in was a movie called “Coupe de Ville” – a comedy about three brothers that hate each other that have to drive their father’s car across the country together for their mother’s birthday. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. You will see Dempsey in a whole new light once you can catch your breath from laughing so much.
The final idea that we’d have for him would be to see him in the role of a villain, but with the glut of superhero shows on the air, there aren’t too many other projects out there other than “Black Lightning” that could be available to him. The reality with Dempsey is this: He’s a guy who did incredibly well for himself for many years on “Grey’s Anatomy” and as a result of that, he’s in a place now financially where he can dictate more of what he wants. For the time being, having the time to engage in some other activities like racing have been high on his priority list.
