‘Outlander’ season 3 notes: Crew heroics; ‘Doctor Who’ rumor eye-rolling

Outlander -

In closing off this fine Tuesday, and the first day of February no less, why not kick things off with the latest “Outlander” notes? Here’s a chance to dive into a couple of the latest stories from the world of the show; given that this is the reigning Show of the Year winner at the site, it’s something we’re continuing to look to do throughout the Droughlander. Why stop the coverage when we’re all having a good time? (Having a good time! Anyone down for some Queen music?)

Cheers to the crew – We can probably all agree that crews never receive enough credit. They work incredibly long hours and produce the television that we love, and really, without them we’d probably just have actors standing around in street clothes saying lines that nobody would ever see.

Now, we’ve got more confirmation that the “Outlander” crew are also heroes at the same time. On Monday, the crew came to the rescue in assisting paramedics after a woman fell near the show’s set at Dunure Castle in South Ayrshire. Specifically, the crew offered up their use of vehicles in order to help the paramedics get to her before transferring her over to a local hospital. There’s a full report all about the scene over at the Scottish Sun.

This location is where production was wrapping up the Scotland portion of filming for the season; there is another portion coming in South Africa, and of course we’ll have more coverage once we roll around to that.

“Outlander” crew, a toast to you! You make great television, and you also help people in times of need. We’re sure that we’ll have further opportunities to credit you further throughout season 3 — whenever that is. If you missed it, yesterday’s post looked at factor’s at play when it comes to premiere dates.

No, Sam Heughan’s not quitting the show for “Doctor Who” – This is seriously a headline that we saw out in the internet earlier today. Yeah, there are times when we just don’t entertain this stuff for the sake of giving people publicity, but in this age where truth especially matters, we want to try to connect the dots for a minute about how someone in the media would actually construct such a story in the first place.

More than likely, it began with Sam commenting back on Twitter to Julie Chaston (shout-out to a longtime reader!) after she made a comment about how she’d like to see him play the part of The Doctor someday. Somehow, Sam wanting to play the part equaled in the eyes of some rumor-starters him leaving “Outlander” to replace the soon-to-depart Peter Capaldi. Nope! Not happening. For one, this is an extraordinary role that he already has, and there could be more opportunities for that down the line. Also, could you imagine the chaos that this would cause?

The only thing that these rumors really have right is that in order to play The Doctor, he’d need to have a lot of time on his hands, and that probably includes not being a regular on another show … that is, unless all of the “Doctor Who” episodes are filmed in a different time and space in which things move very quickly, and he can film an entire stretch of 10+ episodes and a Christmas Special within the span of ten minutes on Planet Earth. If this can happen, someone get the man a Tardis!

Seriously, though: These rumors are really just designed to get you to click and soak up the ad revenue. It’s like the stories that incessantly comment on the stars’ personal lives and try to convince you that people are dating.

If you do want to read some “Doctor Who” discussion … We did recently post some of our picks for who should play The Doctor next, and you can check that out here. Sam’s not on it, mostly because of, you know, the awesome job that he already has.

Of course, we’ll be back with more “Outlander” notes and updates soon. (Photo: Starz.)
