‘Elementary’ season 5, episode 13 preview: Sherlock takes on a hostage crisis

Elementary -There’s something about the premise for Sunday night’s new episode of “Elementary” that feels perfect for what you want this show to be. Sure, it’s scary and very dangerous for the characters on the show, but from the outside looking in what this does is set up a rather great foundation for what could be a twisted, fascinating case to follow.

Here is what we know at present, based on the sneak peeks below: Sherlock and Joan are called to investigate what is going to be a hostage situation at a diner, as a man is holding up to twenty people inside, demanding that he speaks with the two of them. As Sherlock astutely points out, there is no reason to be directly concerned over whether or not this man wants him dead; after all, if that was the case, there were ample opportunities to take him out of commission beforehand. This man was, after all, someone who had contacted him in the past.

Once we get inside the diner, we start to get a further sense of just what the overall sense of urgency is. This man did something desperate in order to ensure that Sherlock and Joan looked at his son’s case before the statue of limitations was up on it … and it was expiring that very day. This is not exactly what we would call giving the two parties a whole lot of time to work with! This is a complicated case, mostly due to the fact that time is not on their side, and there may be questions as to whether or not they want to get involved to support someone threatening other lives.

We definitely don’t commend this father’s actions, but he has to know that he’s making an enormous sacrifice in doing this. If you are the NYPD, you don’t let him off the hook for this even if justice was not served properly for his son. Maybe Sherlock and Joan do end up helping him, but he could still spend the next several years of his life behind bars.
