‘Scorpion’ season 3 spoilers: Walter, Sylvester, and undercover chess

Chess -Scorpion” is a show that features high-stakes explosions, action sequences, danger, and occasionally death-defying stunts; yet, what’s great is that here and there, you also get an episode about undercover chess. You never quite know what you’re going to get out of the show, and we do think that this tends to add to the appeal to a certain extent.

The upcoming February 13 episode of the show entitled “Keep It in Check, Mate” (a further reminder that this show does episode titles better than anyone) is going to more than likely offer up many great things, whether it be a chance to see Walter and Sylvester playing a little bit of chess to a story with a certain degree of danger to it. What are the two doing? Well, they are undercover at a tournament in order to figure out a way to remove a U.S. spy from the equation before their identity is exposed.

To us, here’s where some of the fun of this episode comes about. We know that both Sylvester and Walter are really good at games like chess; however, going undercover is something we’d be a tad more concerned about. Walter is not the best liar, and while chess may be an innocent strategic game, there’s probably some people pointing guns at the tournament if a spy is in danger there. Their training the past couple of years could prove useful if they want to make it out of there in one piece.

To us, the joy that comes from this episode is the combination of seeing these characters doing something that they’re good at, and then also something that they may have problems figuring out how to handle. Also, this episode seems like a return to more of the show’s roots after veering in several different directions with the Veronica character as of late. (For the record, we didn’t mind her and we like Lea Thompson, but we know that some people out there considered her to be rather polarizing.)
