‘Gotham’ season 3 winter finale trailer hypes up Jerome versus Bruce Wayne
The season 3 winter finale of “Gotham” is coming onto Fox Monday night, and based on the new trailer for it below, signs point to it being a rather epic affair. You’ve got Jerome, and you’ve got Bruce Wayne, finally going head to head. Is this the real birth-of-Batman moment? It could be, given that we are finally going to be seeing the character take charge and fight for himself.
The trailer below gives you a good sense as to how all of this comes about, as Jerome unleashes his prophets and followers on the city in hopes of causing mass chaos. It serves as a worthy distraction for him as he manages to locate Bruce Wayne, the only true person left on his hit list, and bring him to what certainly appears to be his carnival of terror. While there, the two are going to engage in some mind-games … and eventually a brawl. We’ll see just how well some of that fight training with Alfred has turned out for Bruce over time.
As we get closer to the end of this episode, the larger question that remains for us is what becomes of Jerome after this. Does he get killed off again, or do we eventually see a situation for here where we end up seeing him become the Joker as so many want? We remain torn on that. There is zero doubt that Cameron Monaghan is tremendous in this role, not to mention terrifying. The issue here is mostly that the Joker, as we knew him in the comics, was a man without a backstory. Nobody knew where he came from and why he was the way that he was. Maybe you can argue that the show is its own creation, and because it’s not 100% canon, it can change things up as it wants to. It’s hard to be mad about the idea of Jerome becoming the Clown Prince of Crime just based on performance alone.
The biggest issue moving forward may be scheduling, given that Monaghan is a regular on “Shameless,” and therefore only seems to be available for around three or so episodes a season. If he comes back, the show will have to make the most of it.
