‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4, episode 5 preview: The story of Malcolm Dreyfuss; reverberations of grief

More -

So far through on “Sleepy Hollow” season 4, what we’ve seen from the character of Malcolm Dreyfuss is that he’s formidable. He’s not the typical character that we’ve seen on the show over time, and his history with the supernatural world is a complicated one. Through the first four episodes of the season, this history is something that’s been dangled over the heads of most of the characters on the series.

With that said, we’re about set to see it explode moving into the next all-new episode.

Synopsis – “As Dreyfuss gets closer to making progress on his mission, important parts of his past come to light. His former partner returns to settle the score from years before and it becomes evident that Dreyfuss’ involvement in the supernatural is not something new. Don’t miss learning how Malcolm Dreyfuss came to be.”

All of this sounds interest, and the promo below (which features many of the key characters trapped, and as per usual in grave danger) sounds like it will be incredibly exciting. None of this takes away from the primary question that we do have at the moment, and that is whether or not the show shot itself in the foot a little bit by bringing up the lack of grief Ichabod’s expressed over Abbie ever since her death. Is that appropriate for this character? We’d argue not, given that he did show so much for Katrina at one point during its run. Sure, he’s been distracted and hardened emotionally ever since then, but it doesn’t change how close he and Nicole Beharie’s character were. You can argue over whether or not it was romantic or professional closeness, but it was closeness nonetheless that should be resolved further.

Maybe this episode presents a further opportunity — or maybe it tries to push forward and pretend that little was ever said about it in the first place. Both are very much possible.
