‘Big Brother Canada 5’ teaser hints at March premiere

We’ve had a good month and a half or so now to wind down from the conclusion of “Big Brother: Over the Top,” and with that, we’re able now to say that we’re reading to have the North American version of the game back on television!

Unfortunately, you do still have to wait for a little while, given that “Big Brother Canada 5” is not premiering until March. This was made official in the latest teaser promo below via Global, which features a countdown, various clips from past seasons, and a rocket-ship emoji in the tweet.

It’s not hard for us to be excited about the show coming back, given that we love all things “Big Brother” and we know that the casting for this version of the show is incredible. With that said, we do think that the show needs a bit of a redemption tour this year. Part of its problem may just be that it peaked so early with a second season that is one of our favorite seasons of the franchise ever, and a first season that was also by and large very good. Season 3 was distorted by some twists that made the game completely unfair, including the Have-Not Room twist that, when combining the timing of it and also its impact, was in our mind the worst twist in the history of either the US or Canadian show. Meanwhile, season 4 had the downfall of Mitch, which was also terrible, and an endgame that simply didn’t pan out the way viewers wanted. It’s hard to be as mad about that, though, given that the blame falls there on the strongest strategic players not winning competitions when they needed to.

It’s too early to speculate about specific changes to the game this season — maybe we’ll get more international players like Tim and Nikki, or maybe we’ll get a chance to see a couple of returning players in the mix. It’s also possible that the show goes with all newbies and a game that is a little more traditional, which we certainly would not be upset about.
