‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Key Talia al Ghul question to be answered

Arrow -

If you’ve been following all things “Arrow” online during its hiatus, then there is a good chance that you know already that Talia al Ghul is going to be appearing on the show. With that, though, there is an obvious question: Why in the world have we not heard about her within the world of the show before now? We’ve already met both her sister Nyssa and also her late father Ra’s al Ghul, and she was never mentioned during any of that.

Is there a reason for this? Most indications do seem to be so, judging from what executive producer Marc Guggenheim had to say to Entertainment Weekly recently on the subject of what we can expect to see:

“She’s definitely her own person; she’s not a Nyssa clone, by any stretch. You can definitely sense a familial resemblance. Having Ra’s al Ghul as your dad, it’s likely to forge a very specific kind of person. They’re close enough and different enough that I would love, at some point, to do a story with Nyssa and Talia … We’ll also be dealing very directly with the fairly obvious question, which is: Wait a second, when Oliver met Ra’s al Ghul, why didn’t he say, ‘Hey, wait a minute, I think I met your daughter back in Russia!’ We have a very specific answer for that.”

Apparently, there must be some reason why Talia does not want to spread gossip about her meeting up with Oliver — it’s either that or she gets killed off, but we have a hard time seeing that happen. If you are introducing such an iconic character within the CW universe, why in the world would you kill them off right away? You want to be able to utilize them in the future? Also, since Guggenheim mentioned the idea of a story with both Talia and Nyssa, we have to think that she is still out there somewhere.

Just in case you are wondering why we keep speaking of Talia in the past tense rather than the present, she’s going to be turning up during the Russia flashbacks part of the show.
