‘Scandal’ season 6, episode 1 preview: Is the election coming to California?

More scoop -

Thursday night’s season premiere of “Scandal” is right around the corner (on Thursday night in fact!), and judging from the new sneak peek below, we could see one of the most unusual endings of an election — real or fiction — in quite some time. (Okay, maybe we shouldn’t say that, but we’re talking just in terms of electoral votes here!)

Apparently, the race for President is going to come down to just one state, and what makes this so odd is that this said state seems to be California. Even if it’s got a ton of electoral votes attached to it, it’s almost universally Democratic and it’s not a state you ever see really being in play to be anything other then Democratic. Therefore, everyone was left on pins and needles waiting to see what some of the results were. Maybe this little preview (which was first shown off during Kerry Washington’s appearance on “Ellen” earlier this week) is meant to mislead you and other states are in play as well; either way, it’s clear that this is a close, contested election between Governor Vargas and Mellie Grant.

Just in case you had not heard previously, there doesn’t appear to be any plan for the show to stall on revealing the results of the election for weeks. We will learn pretty early on in the premiere who ended up winning the race, and are going to move forward from there and dive into some of the “Scandal” you’ve come to know and love. WE are thrilled that they aren’t planning on dragging this on, we want to get into the aftermath of it all and see where things go from there.

The tricky thing about previewing this episode is mostly the fact that there is such a question mark hanging over it because of the winner. The results of this do effectively change everything. If Mellie wins, for example, maybe she’d be more inclined to keep some of the same staff. However, if Vargas wins, maybe we end up seeing more of a complete overhaul. The entire structure of the show is at stake, and it will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out.
