Should ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13, episode 10 still have aired tonight?

Grey's 0

Tonight on ABC, there is going to be an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” coming on the air — unfortunately, it just so happens to be repeat.

Originally, tonight was meant to be the return of the entire #TGIT lineup to the air in between this show, “Scandal,” and “How to Get Away with Murder” — three shows that people love, and three shows that are a ratings dynamo for a network that certainly could benefit from the bump. So why are we not getting them tonight? Much of it has to do with a “20/20” special that is airing at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time that will lead up to Inauguration tomorrow.

Now, it’s certainly one thing to question this special airing and preempting these shows from a political perspective — in making this move, ABC’s likely angering the majority of their #TGIT fans. The casts of all these shows and Shonda Rhimes were also active Hillary Clinton supporters during the election, so there is something very awkward that comes from them being preempted for something related to Donald Trump.

Even if you take politics out of this for a moment, you could easily argue that you still could have aired “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” tonight even if the special was to still come on the air. The argument against that is that you want #TGIT to launch all at once, but there are also many more episodes of these two aforementioned shows still to come this season as opposed to just a small handful for “How to Get Away with Murder.” It wouldn’t be that hard to make the scheduling for all of this work in a way that made some sense.

In the end, all of this is frustrating since it would’ve been nice to have a chance to watch some of these stories play out, especially since there’s probably going to be some confusion out there for people who don’t yet realize that the episodes have been delayed. They’re going to check out the shows tonight, and likely feel the tinge of disappointment when they realize that they’ve been pushed back — especially for something political.
