‘Top Chef: Charleston’ episode 8 preview: How Restaurant Wars will work this season

Top Chef

Tonight’s new episode of “Top Chef: Charleston” is certainly a significant one, given that this is Restaurant Wars and one of the most stressful challenges of the entire season. It is also, at the same time, one of the most entertaining given that you are effectively getting a chance to see people build a whole restaurant in a very short period of time.

Based on the video below, there is one thing that is different right away about the battle this season: Instead of having the two restaurants function at the same time, they will take place over separate nights and at the same space. We’re not sure if we love this twist, given that one team is basically getting an extra day to think about their food and their concept. Maybe you can argue that this is a disadvantage given that it can lead to some over-thinking, but if you use it right, it can help you plan.

Meanwhile, we also are seeing a schoolyard pick to determine what the teams for the challenge are.

Team One – Katsuji, Sheldon, Casey, and John

Team Two – Shirley, Brooke, Sylva, and Emily

The first thing that is striking about these teams is realizing that at the moment, there are just two new chefs left in the competition in Sylva and Emily — and one of them in Emily has been near the bottom of several tasks, and was picked last for this competition. Yet, at the same time we may say that her team has the edge in this competition, just because when you look at that group, you’ve got people who’ve shown great teamwork skills and very little ego. Brooke is a master at the front of the house if they choose to go that way.

Meanwhile, Katsuji and John have an incredible love-hate relationship, and you don’t know where that is going to fall on a given episode. They’re also both incredibly stubborn. They’re going to have to spend more time managing each other, and we could see a lot of their performance varying depending on who they choose to make executive chef. Shirley wants to handle the duties for her team.

Based on the teams, who do you think has the best shot of winning? Share below! Meanwhile, head over here to get some more news when it comes to “Top Chef.” (Photo: Bravo.)
