‘Days of Our Lives’ not canceled yet; NBC boss suggests there’s still hope

Days -

Maybe we’re not at the point just yet where everyone should start to push the panic button on “Days of Our Lives,” even though there were previously some nerves out there … and for an understandable reason. After all, NBC is bringing Megyn Kelly (formerly of Fox News) over for a daytime show, and when you think about that for a moment, you have to remember that this show is going to have to replace something on the lineup. Given the declining state of daytime dramas, it was easy to assume that “Days,” which has been on for over half a century, would be in danger.

Speaking to TVLine at the TCA Winter Press Tour, programming head Robert Greenblatt made it clear that they would not “make a decision for another couple months,” but he also said that he didn’t think “it was over yet.” He also added the following in terms of Kelly coming on board:

“Everybody assumed that she would kill that show. And that’s a bad assumption … It’s still too early to know where she’s going to be in daytime. And we have a lot of news hours in daytime, so there’s some flexibility.”

We hope that this isn’t just a dose of false hope, mostly because of the fact that these are some of the most loyal fans out there. While we cannot admit to being the biggest daytime TV viewer out there, at the same time these shows play such an integral part in the history of our favorite medium. Without them on the air, an enormous part of what made this form of entertainment so popular will be gone. We hope that somehow, the show figures out a way to keep going, and we can continue to see viewers enjoy some more great stories in the years to come. We should know a decision by May.

As soon as there is something more to report on the future of “Days of Our Lives,” we’ll be sure to let you know. For now, let us know in the comments if you want to see the show back for another season!
