‘The Flash’ season 3 spoilers: Rick Cosnett returning — but as Eddie Thawne?

FlashJust in case you didn’t have enough great news already when it comes to “The Flash,” there’s now this: You are getting Rick Cosnett for at least one upcoming episode this season.

In a post on Twitter, the actor (who was a regular for the first season of the show) made it clear that he would be back … but as Eddie Thawne? He never said that, and there is absolutely room on this show for a variety of different permutations of this character. This is a series that has at times played on the idea of destiny, and the Reverse-Flash certainly did his part to manipulate Eddie, making it clear that he would the one forgotten in history. For fans, the assumption was there before the finale that he would end up being converted to the dark side. That didn’t happen, and he had a chance to leave a hero and the one who vanquished Eobard for the world once and for all — or at least the version of him that existed within the present. The past version is still out there causing a ton of trouble on “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Maybe the Eddie we’re going to meet is one from another Earth — or maybe Barry Allen goes and does something to screw up the timeline as a result of him working to change history in regards to saving Iris. You have to think that this is something that Eddie himself would endorse, given that he and Iris were in a relationship prior to his death and she spent much of the second season mourning what happened to him.

Since leaving “The Flash,” Cosnett also had an arc on “Quantico” — one that also ended in horrible things happening to his character. Can’t one of Rick’s characters just live for a little while?

“The Flash” returns to The with new episodes starting on Tuesday, January 24. If you do want to read some more news regarding what’s coming up in the near future, all you have to do is head over to the link here! Cosnett is not the only familiar face returning to the show, as Robbie Amell has confirmed the same exact thing.

Meanwhile, be sure to share in the comments below what you think about Rick coming back on the show! It’s going to be interesting to see precisely what version of the character he is. (Photo: The CW.)
