‘The Crown’ season 2: Show exec on recasting roles

The Crown -Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press went all in on celebrating Great Britain at the Golden Globes. “The Night Manager” dominated several of the categories in which it was nominated, whereas “The Crown” managed to win for both Drama Series and for the performance of its star Claire Foy. All in all, it was a tremendous night for the series.

Yet, at the same time this did not stop some serious questions regarding the future of the show from coming out. The reality here is that “The Crown” plans on looking towards the entire life of Queen Elizabeth II, meaning that after the second season, the producers are going to have to look at recasting Foy and many other members of the main cast with older performers since they will be jumping ahead in time.

Following the Globe wins last night (per TVLine), show creator Peter Morgan noted that the second season would take the show through the midway point of the 1960s; meanwhile, he also reminded us that “at the end of Season 2, we will have to start thinking about a new cast. Our stars will have reached the limits of how long they can play this.” There haven’t been any talks at this time regarding who will be in some of these roles, but this is something that they will have to start looking at as production of season 2 starts to near its end.

Can you make a case for trying to keep Foy and several other cast members around and age them up using makeup? We suppose that it’s possible, but at the same time they’d probably need to spend so much time in the makeup chair every day that it would make it hard to get a lot of the other work done. We also figure that with this show’s popularity and acclaim, the producers are going to have zero problems when it comes to getting quality actors interested in coming on board to play these roles.
