Golden Globes 2017: Rami Malek, Caitriona Balfe, Tom Hiddleston, Gina Rodriguez among reader picks

Over the course of the past several weeks, we’ve discussed much of the 2017 Golden Globes in terms of who we think will win, who we personally want to see win, and also the picks from some of our readers. Today, we’re here to share with you some of the results for the latter. Turnout once again was rather generous, so thanks to everyone who voted! While it’s hard to say for sure that the votes tonight will be a reflection of who the Hollywood Foreign Press will choose, we do think that many of these people and shows have far more than a snowball’s chance.

Without further ado, let’s dive into this. As a reminder, we don’t cover film at the site and we’ll leave those categories to people in that sphere.

Reader Picks  Golden Globes 2017

Drama Series – “Game of Thrones.” A solid 50% of all of our readers chose the HBO drama as the most deserving pick this year. “This Is Us” finished in second place with just over 30%.

Drama Actor – Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot.” With a whopping 79% of the vote, this one was a runaway.

Drama Actress – Caitriona Balfe, “Outlander.” Another clear choice, with 66% of the readers voting for the woman behind Claire Fraser.

Comedy Series – “Veep.” The big trend this year seems to be readers flooding a single nominee early and other shows failing to catch up in the days that follow. The HBO show won with over 83% of the reader vote.

Comedy Actor – Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent,” and Anthony Anderson, “black-ish.” With 33% of the vote each, we have a super-rare tie! (Yet, there is one more coming.)

Comedy Actress – Gina Rodriguez, “Jane the Virgin.” This one was fairly close, but with around 36% of the vote, she managed to be about seven percentage points higher than Julia Louis-Dreyfus from”Veep.”

Limited Series / TV Movie – “The Night Manager.” With almost 46% of the vote, the British series (which aired on AMC in the United States) pulled a major upset in our vote over “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.”

Limited Series / TV Movie Actor – Tom Hiddleston, “The Night Manager.” Hiddleston fans tend to be super-passionate about voting online, so we cannot say we’re surprised that his victory here, with almost 89%, was the most commanding of any in our series.

Limited Series / TV Movie Actress – Riley Keough, “The Girlfriend Experience.” Another upset here, with over 75% of voters choosing her over Sarah Paulson, considered by many to be the favorite tonight. Could there be another big shock result coming?

Supporting Actor – John Lithgow, “The Crown” and Christian Slater, “Mr. Robot.” With 38% of the vote for each of them, this may be the first time we’ve had two different ties ever since we started doing this sort of polling.

Supporting Actress – Lena Headey, “Game of Thrones.” With 59% of the vote, we close our list with a more commanding win.
