‘Outlander’ season 3: Caitriona Balfe on changes between seasons, reunions

Outlander -

There’s going to be a small surge of “Outlander” press this weekend, and there is a fairly clear reason why: The Golden Globes are here! Caitriona Balfe is nominated for her work as Claire Fraser, and while it would’ve been nice to see the show and Sam Heughan there with her, this is still a joyous occasion.

What Balfe’s nomination means, in addition to her having a shot at winning (fingers crossed), is that we’ll probably get a few more more interviews and therefore teases as to what is to come in the third season. Sure, many Diana Gabaldon readers may already know much of the road ahead, but there is still something exciting about hearing about the show’s presentation of it, and how certain characters from the pages are brought to life.

In addition to all of this, in interviews you also get to hear even more about the great deal of variance within every batch of episodes. This is something that Balfe referenced in a new interview with TheWrap:

“The great thing about this show is that every new season, everything sort of gets turned on its head … In the beginning, when we come back this season, I think everyone knows at this point the stories are quite separate. We see a lot of Jamie’s story, and what he has gone through in 20 years. We see a bit of Claire and Frank, Claire and Brianna, and you see a bit of Claire as a professional doctor, surgeon. It’s just so different.”

Balfe was coy about whether or not Heughan would be in attendance for the show this year (she is personally bringing her agent), but she did tease up that the reunion coming between Jamie and Claire should generate quite a few reactions:

“Of course, there will be a reunion … Which I think is really beautiful and it’s been filmed really beautifully. It’s very interesting, it’s like, how do two people come together after not seeing each other for 20 years, after both believing each other have died, and how do you build something real again?”

Given the amount of momentum that will be there at the time in which this scene finally happens we may be willing to wager that it will one of the most-anticipated ones of the entire show to date. For those who are not book readers, we will not say anything more! However, we know there will be curiosity in seeing, like with many key scenes, whether or not it matches the picture that many fans have in their head.

If you missed it, head over here for some more news on when an “Outlander” marathon is going to be coming to Starz! The third season will premiere this spring, so feel free to share some of your hopes and expectations for it in the comments! (Photo: Starz.)
