Jenny McCarthy fires back at Mariah Carey – ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ controversy

Rockin Eve -

We’re now three full days from New Year’s Eve, and yet here we are still talking about what went down with Mariah Carey on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” Trust us when we say that we’re every bit as surprised as anyone that this is something that is still a subject of conversation; yet, here we are. It’s not just that show co-host Jenny McCarthy said something about Carey’s controversial performance that was marred with technical issues and a lack of singing; it’s also what it was that she said.

Specifically, McCarthy on her SiriusXM show strongly suggested that Mariah’s struggles were mostly due to her own nerves, and possible limitations to her voice:

“I think Mariah was nervous as hell, [and] I think she chose really tough songs to try to sing along with … Her voice is not there anymore. I don’t think there is a problem with her inner ears, I just don’t. I think she used it as an excuse.”

This is a claim that we know the singer’s manager would strongly disagree with, given that Stella Bulochnikov told Entertainment Weekly that there were a number of technical miscues around the performance; not only that, but she said that they should have cut to commercial when things were not going well, stating that this is something that Dick Clark would’ve done many years ago for the sake of preserving the artist and focusing more on that rather than having a viral moment.

While all of this stuff is undoubtedly rather fun to talk about, we do think that in the end, we’re talking a lot about bluster. Is anyone not going to book Carey in the future because of this? It feels like if anything, it gets people talking about her beyond just her reality show. It was a performance that went terribly awry, but it’s not like it ruined New Year’s Eve or anything. There are plenty of other follies in 2016 that we can look back at instead rather than focusing on this one.

If there is anything else of substance to talk about with this controversy (though we’re not sure there is), we’ll have it for you in due time. Stay tuned… (Photo: ABC.)
