‘The X Factor’ UK: How low did Honey G’s single go?

X factor -

While we’re sure that 2016 is viewed as a very great year for Honey G given everything that transpired with her on “The X Factor,” we’re not altogether sure that she is gearing up for the greatest of years in 2017.

We’ve now seen some of the official numbers for sales of the rapper’s new single “The Honey G Show,” and we can’t say that they are breaking any records or knocking anything out of the park. As a matter of fact, her single slid all the way down at #149 on the midweek chart. While we did see the song manage to get off to a very good start in terms of debuting in the iTunes top 10, it fell off incredibly fast after that and soon found itself more or less in the doldrums for the week. Honey G no doubt has her fans, but they don’t seem to be enough to sustain her for a lengthy career.

Does this mean that we’re at the end of the road for the rapper in terms of her being an artist on Simon Cowell’s record label? Not necessarily, given that (per the reported conditions of her deal), they can make another single without them having to produce an entire album. This could enable them to go back to the drawing board, come up with a new idea, and then release that a little bit later down the road. Just because the first single isn’t a hit doesn’t mean that the next track won’t be too.

If there is one thing that you can argue hurt “The Honey G Show,” despite her entire act being somewhat novelty-based, it’s that the song was incredibly rushed in order to try and compensate for the fact that her fame was going to be fleeting. There are probably some better songs down the line she could make, but will anyone still be around to remember them? That’s the question she currently faces.
